The story of Trogir starts around the 3rd century BC with the formation of a Greek settlement named Tragurion. Later it was under the reign of the Roman, Hungarian, Venetian, and Austrian Empires. Trogir declared its independence in 1991 and became a Croatian town.
This charming town showcases captivating architecture and historical landmarks influenced by various cultures. Due to its remarkable heritage, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1997.
The city walls and Kamerlengo fortress line this coastal beauty. Be sure to climb to the top of the fortress to experience amazing aerial views of the Riva and the Old Town. The Town of Trogir has many nicknames, but one that describes it perfectly is ”Museum-city”.
Another great viewpoint is the bell tower of the Saint Lawrence Cathedral. This tower, standing 47 meters tall, provides breathtaking views of the town and its beautiful surroundings for those who aren’t afraid of heights. This imposing building is a perfect blend of different styles and artists. The most notable work was done by Master Radovan – ”the best of all in this artisanship”. Its unique work on the cathedral’s gateway is just a piece of the impressive historical collection of this town. A leisurely stroll around its streets will reveal other gems such as the Square of Saint John Paul II, Saint Sebastian’s Church, Ćipiko Palace, Žudika Park, and many more.
